Austyn James is a Los Angeles based production designer with an MFA in Production Design from the American Film Institute Conservatory. His background in interior architecture informs his approach to visual storytelling, using space, color, and atmosphere to express character and emotion.
His visual influences include Tom Ford, one of his earliest and most formative inspirations, as well as filmmakers Yorgos Lanthimos, Christopher Nolan, Terrence Malick, Guillermo del Toro, and Denis Villeneuve. Combining grounded research with surreal and symbolic design, Austyn creates environments that reflect the inner lives of characters. His work centers on building cinematic worlds that serve the story and feel deeply human.
